I would like to explain here why a major fraction of Indian soceity does NOT want to move forward and how Chandrayaan mission will help them move forward along with those who already foresee India as a superpower.

Poverty, malnutrition, illiteracy has a fundamental problem – Population. This is nowhere related to moon mission but I think this point has to be mentioned since we are talking about the Indian society. In my daily long journey back home, I come across two dozen traffic signals, which are always crowded by mendicants. Many times, I have asked them if they would like to work if given a chance and they promptly refuse since they get what they want. This trend is not just a peculiarity of Pune but it’s more or less the same scene in many parts of the country. In Vidarbha, where we happen to own a farm, we have a tough time finding workers. Once they get their daily wage, they use it on alcohol and then it’s really hard to find them back. The same story also continues in southern Maharashtra. One particular problem cannot be pin pointed in this context; there are a lot of factors contributing to it. Population along with poverty, inefficient government has become a deadly combination and a lot of collective efforts are needed to eradicate it. Progress has to achieved in every related problem including the mentality of people. Sab Chalta Hai should not exist in anyone’s lexicon. Chandrayaan wont have any direct impact on this problem but in a long term it will somehow affect this in an indirect way and a positive manner.

One cannot decide his neighbors and India has unfortunately got the worst neighbors one can ask for. We live in a country, which is surrounded by some of the most dangerous places in the world. Contrary to the global trend where space-launching technology was developed from missiles, India has developed its missile arsenal using space-launching technology. The success of modified PSLV will surely help India in developing ICBMs which China already possess and which Pakistan can get access because of their servile behavior towards China. A strong deterring force is the need of the hour since our neighbors are prying their eyes on integral parts of India.

Another point I would like to mention is that, one of the primary objective of Chandrayaan-I is to search for Helium-3, a clean fuel that can solve the problem of green house gases emission and global warming. If Chandrayaan gets success in this field, India can well become the first country to “mine” in the space. We should not just be proud of this but we should try to invest in this to maintain the lead. India has already getting competition from other Asian giants in this field and we surely need to keep the pace going.

The success of Chandrayaan will also increase India’s share in the lucrative market of satellite launching. India offers the same technology at a very marginal price compared to other players in the domain. The success of this mission will greatly boost the investor’s confidence which will surely help the industry to flourish.

In clonclusion, I’d like to say that Chandrayaan is surely a milestone not only for ISRO but for the whole county which will surely have its long term benefits. India CANNOT prosper by just reducing poverty and illiteracy but it needs a collective effort from farmers, scientists, engineers, doctors, finance sector, everybody which contributes to the nations progress. Chandrayaan mission has surely been catalytic in the nations progress and for those also who do not know what progress means. It will surely help to bring a new era in India’s glorious 7000 years old history and will help to realize the dream of a modern, secular, democratic DEVELOPED INDIA.
